Cabo de Palos

Located as the last city before entering the La Manga Strip, you find the fishing village Cabo de Palos. The name Cabo comes from the mountains, which reaches all the way to the village, while Palos comes from “Palus” in Latin, meaning the proximity the Mar Menor Sea.

All the way back to 1862, the work of one the famous lighthouse in Cabo de Palos started. The lighthouse streches 80 meters in to the sky from sea level, and was lit for the first time back in January 1865.

Today the primarally attraction is the marina and the restaurants. You will still find fishing boats and workers walking around the area, where the surrounding moroccan architecture gives the spot a speciel atmosphere. There restaurants offers the mandatory “Paella”. Many of the restaurants doesn’t look like much from the outside, but are fully packed especially in weekends.

Even though the lighthouse was lit back in 1865, there is a lot of shipwrecks in the area. These wrecks combined with rockformations and fish, has made the area very popular amongst divers.
